Lessons from the Dirt

I've got a patch of weeds growing in the corner of my lovely garden...Even though I know its ultimate goal is to take over all the good things that are flourishing there, I just keep trimming it back over and over and over again... instead of completely digging it out by the roots. Mostly because sometimes...

it has such a pretty little flower on it.

Doesn't that make it worth the risk of keeping it?

Your life as a Christian is seemingly full of Christ and there is no room for self, but an aggressive sin comes in and wiggles his way in, crowding out Christ just a little bit. You give place to this sin and soon another does the same thing. Sin by sin, error by error, selfishness by selfishness, the backsliding continues until you are virtually empty of Christ and full of self.

             ~Richard Owen Roberts

Familiarity with vice does not produce disgust, it produces attachment.

            ~John MacArthur

If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up?And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.
       ~Genesis 4:7

  1. I like the parallel the weed with the pretty flower and sin. My Bible study study is focusing on making good choices, abiding by the Holy Spirit who lives in us. Very fitting! Love your garden.... get rid of the weed :)

  2. Sorry, I should have read my comment out loud before posting it. Tired this morning.

  3. Once, I left an unknown plant to grow beside the house, just in case. It turned into a meadow phlox, which in the seven years we lived there became a row of meadow phlox that fed my soul every spring.

  4. Oh, Nora....
    Attachment, instead of disgust.
Give me eyes, Lord to see where I am attached... instead of disgusted.

    Your garden is beautiful.
    Like you.

    I send so much love...
    All's grace,
    Ann
